State of California Awards Green Lodging Leadership Level Status
to San Diego's Only 5-Diamond Luxury Resort

SAN DIEGO, California (October 2009) -The Lodge at Torrey Pines® is dedicated to protecting the environment and has earned the Leadership Level status from the California Green Lodging Program, which recognizes efforts by the California hospitality industry to minimize waste, conserve energy and protect natural resources.

"Because we are so close to the natural beauty of Torrey Pines Golf Course and Torrey Pines State Reserve, we feel a special obligation to make a commitment to our environment," said General Manager Dan Fullen. "We're very proud to be the only La Jolla luxury resort and spa to have earned this honor."

The California Green Lodging Program was developed to steer "green travelers" to eco-friendly hotels and resorts. The Lodge earned the Leadership Level status by keeping a written environmental policy and by meeting all seven of the program's criteria: waste minimization, reuse/recycling, energy efficiency, conservation and management, waste management, freshwater resource management, hazardous materials management, plus environmentally and socially sensitive purchasing policies.

"The Lodge overlooks the Pacific Ocean, and the view reminds us every day of the relationship between the environment and our property," Fullen said. "Our guests stay with us to enjoy the natural beauty of Southern California, and our staff does everything we can to maintain or improve our surroundings."

In addition to adhering to The Lodge's environmental policies, Fullen said the resort hotel also works to support local farmers markets as well as small growers, ranchers and fishermen. Epicurious.com named the Lodge's signature restaurant, A.R. Valentien, the Top Ten Farm to Table Restaurants because of Executive Chef Jeff Jackson's dedication to building his ever-changing menu from local products and ingredients.

"We care about our impact on the environment, and this award recognizes that we are keeping our commitments to our guests and our community," Fullen said.

The Lodge at Torrey Pines® is a tribute to the California Craftsman Movement and is modeled after Greene and Greene's famed Gamble and Blacker houses in Pasadena, California, two of the finest examples of early 1900s Craftsman-style architecture. The Lodge features 170 spacious guest rooms, including 8 suites, more than 13,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space, a 9,500 square-foot full-service spa and two restaurants serving contemporary California cuisine. The Lodge is adjacent to the Torrey Pines Golf Course and is within walking distance of Torrey Pines State Reserve.
