The Lodge at Torrey Pines®
"Best New U.S. Resort-Hotel" for 2004
Influential travel newsletter anoints distinctive
La Jolla resort with Special Award '04
LA JOLLA, California (December 2003) – The Lodge At Torrey Pines® in La Jolla, California, has been named the “Best New U.S. Resort-Hotel” by Andrew Harper’s Hideaway Report. The influential luxury travel newsletter, well-known for its discriminating eye for quality and uncompromising objectivity, honored The Lodge with this award in the January 2004 issue.
The Hideaway Report describes the Lodge At Torrey Pines® as “distinctively designed” and acknowledges its exceptional setting “overlooking the sea and famed Torrey Pines Golf Course near San Diego.” The pseudonymous editors recognized the luxury destination resort with one of only 15 “Special Awards” the newsletter bestows every year.
Opened in April 2002, The Lodge At Torrey Pines® immediately captivated travelers and the travel press alike with its breathtaking location on the rugged southern California coast and loving re-creation of California Craftsman architecture. In an age when hotels often capture the public’s attention for pomp and circumstance alone, the Hideaway Report’s editors point out, a heartfelt appreciation for elegance, warmth and classic design still exists. The Hideaway Report commended The Lodge on these points in a feature-length article in its February 2003 issue.
“To receive such special notice – and attention – from such an impeccable source is quite an honor, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the award,” said William L. Evans, Managing Director of Evans Hotels, which owns The Lodge At Torrey Pines®. “The Hideaway Report is legendary for its unbending demand for quality and distinction. To be selected as the best new resort-hotel in the country is testament to the commitment and dedication of all of our employees, as well as the eye for excellence of Andrew Harper’s Hideaway Report.”
The luxury California coast resort, complete with golf course and full-service spa, received its share of accolades during its first year-and-a-half in business. The Lodge was again awarded AAA’s coveted Five-Diamond Award for 2004 – the only resort in the city of San Diego to receive this prestigious distinction – for the second consecutive year, and was chosen as the Official Site of the U.S. Open in 2008.
In November 2002, Esquire recognized The Lodge’s signature restaurant, A.R. Valentien, naming it one of “America’s Best New Restaurants.” The Lodge boasts numerous positive reviews from the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Gourmet, Architectural Digest and others.
The Lodge at Torrey Pines® is a tribute to the California Craftsman Movement and is modeled after Greene & Greene’s famed Gamble and Blacker houses in Pasadena, California, two of the finest examples of early 1900’s Craftsman-style architecture. The Lodge features 170 spacious guest rooms, including 9 suites, more than 13,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space, a 9,500 square-foot full-service spa and two restaurants serving contemporary California cuisine. The Lodge is adjacent to the Torrey Pines Golf Course and is within walking distance of Torrey Pines State Reserve.
The Lodge at Torrey Pines® is owned and operated by Evans Hotels, San Diego, and is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World. For reservations call 888-826-0224, or for further information contact Steve Pelzer at (858) 777-6706, firstname.lastname@example.org, or visit www.lodgetorreypines.com.
