LA JOLLA, California (May 2003) - The Lodge At Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California, has been named one of the best new hotels in the world by Conde Nast Traveler magazine. The magazine included the stylish southern California property in its annual "Hot List" of the "80 Top New Hotels" for 2003, which included only new properties that were deemed "instant classics" in looks, location and service. "Hundreds of hotels open annually," wrote the editors in the May 2003 issue of Conde Nast Traveler. "We culled the chic from the shabby." Indeed. The Lodge At Torrey Pines, which opened in April 2002, immediately captivated with its breathtaking location on the rugged southern California coast and loving recreation of California Craftsman architecture - both of which were noted with enthusiasm by the magazine. The Lodge's inclusion on the "Hot List" indicates that in an age when so many hotels attempt to astound with razzle-dazzle, there's still a heartfelt appreciation for elegance, warmth and classic design. "We are thrilled to be included on the hottest line-up in travel," said William L. Evans, Managing Director of Evans Hotels, which owns the Lodge At Torrey Pines. "Conde Nast Traveler is well-known for its unbending demand for quality and distinction. To be selected as one of the hottest new hotels in the world is testament to the commitment and dedication of all of our employees - as well as the eye for excellence of Conde Nast Traveler." The Lodge At Torrey Pines has received its share of accolades during its first year in business. In 2002 it was awarded AAA's coveted Five-Diamond Award, and was also accepted as a member of the Leading Hotels of the World. In November 2002 Esquire recognized the Lodge's signature restaurant, A.R. Valentien, naming it one of America's Best New Restaurants. The Lodge has also been graced with numerous positive reviews from the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Gourmet and others, and will be featured in the June 2003 issue of Architectural Record. The Lodge at Torrey Pines is a tribute to the California Craftsman Movement and is modeled after Greene and Greene's famed Gamble and Blacker houses in Pasadena, California, two of the finest examples of early 1900s Craftsman-style architecture. The Lodge features 173 spacious guest rooms, including 7 suites, more than 13,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space, a 9,500 square-foot full-service spa, and two restaurants serving contemporary California cuisine. The Lodge is adjacent to the Torrey Pines Golf Course and is within walking distance of Torrey Pines State Reserve. The Lodge at Torrey Pines is owned and operated by Evans Hotels, San Diego, and is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World.
