Del Mar Race Track

Only a few furlongs from the Pacific Ocean, the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club (DMTC) hosts live racing from mid-July to early September.



The racetrack opened on July 3, 1937, when Hollywood actor/singer Bing Crosby was there to greet fans at the turnstiles. The Academy Award winner was a member of the partnership that created the famed seaside attraction, whose "Where the Turf Meets the Surf" slogan became famous with his song of the same name. Scripps Aquarium

Birch Aquarium

The Birch Aquarium at Scripps is the public exploration center for the world-renowned Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UCSD. Perched on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the aquarium features more than 60 habitats of fish and invertebrates from the cold waters of the Pacific Northwest to the tropical waters of Mexico and beyond. An oceanographic museum showcases research discoveries by Scripps scientists on climate, earth, and ocean science and includes five dozen interactive elements.

La Jolla Playhouse

La Jolla Playhouse

Under the artistic direction of Christopher Ashley, the La Jolla Playhouse on the campus of University of California - San Diego is a hotbed for musicals and plays that have gone on to Broadway and stages around the world. The Playhouse's world-premiere productions include Jersey Boys (2006 Best Musical Tony Award) and Thoroughly Modern Millie (2002 Best Musical Tony Award). The Playhouse, which won the 1993 Tony Award for America's Outstanding Regional Theatre, also hosted a pre-Broadway production of Memphis (2010 Best Musical Tony Award).
