The Lodge at Torrey Pines Earns Highest Status in
California Green Lodging Program
Environmentalist Level Status is awarded to San Diego’s 5-Diamond Luxury Resort
(SAN DIEGO, CA) - The Lodge at Torrey Pines® is dedicated to protecting the environment and has earned the highest level of program participation from the California Green Lodging Program. Environmentalist Level hotels achieved a field survey score of 351 or higher. The program recognizes efforts by the California hospitality industry that focus on program sustainability, minimizing waste, conserving energy and protecting natural resources.
The California Green Lodging Program was developed to steer “green travelers” to eco-friendly hotels and resorts. “Because we are so close to the natural beauty of Torrey Pines Golf Course and Torrey Pines State Reserve, we feel a special obligation to make a commitment to our environment,” said General Manager Dan Fullen. The Lodge earned the Environmentalist Level status by keeping a written environmental policy and by meeting all seven of the program’s criteria: waste minimization, reuse/recycling, energy efficiency, conservation and management, waste management, freshwater resource management, hazardous materials management, plus environmentally and socially sensitive purchasing policies.
“The Lodge overlooks the Pacific Ocean, and the view reminds us every day of the relationship between the environment and our property,” says Fullen. “Our guests stay with us to enjoy the natural beauty of Southern California, and our staff does everything we can to maintain or improve our surroundings. We care about our impact on the environment, and this award recognizes that we are keeping our commitments to our guests and our community.”
