A.R. Valentien Honored with Gold Medallion Award by California Restaurant Association

June 2019

La Jolla, California  — The Lodge at Torrey Pines, the AAA Five Diamond property in La Jolla, recently celebrated two outstanding awards for its culinary program led by Chef Jeff Jackson.

A.R. Valentien, known for its classic farm-to-table cuisine, received a prestigious distinction from the San Diego Chapter of the California Restaurant Association. In May 2019, the 35th annual Gold Medallion Awards were hosted at the San Diego Convention Center and honored the top restaurants and restaurateurs in the San Diego area. A.R. Valentien took home the Gold Medallion award for Best Hotel Fine Dining Restaurant. This is the second time the restaurant has received this award, the first being in 2017.

In addition, The Grill at Torrey Pines was recently listed in San Diego Magazine’s Best Restaurants of 2019, where its Banh Mì menu item was honored with the Critic’s Choice Award for ‘Best Sandwich.’ Available for lunch, the dish features a delicious wood-roasted Italian pork, chicken liver pâté, pickled carrots, cilantro, red jalapeño, daikon, and jicama. San Diego Magazine’s restaurant critic Troy Johnson has previously published that the Banh Mì is “one of the best iterations of the classic Vietnamese sandwich I’ve tasted in San Diego.”
